The Milkscanner is a DIY scanner that allows you to scan and generate models of 3D objects. You can use ink or other opaque liquids, too. Thank you, instructables!

And then, just to kick it up a notch, Friedrich Kirschner and some folks at Eyebeam (pretty much the coolest art/tech centre in the world) adapted the milkscanner into a people-scanning version, using a kiddie pool and ink.
